How to vote

Find out how to vote on the Electoral Commission website.

Registering to vote

It is now much easier for you to get yourself on the Electoral Register. Visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and complete the simple registration form. It will ask you to provide your name, address, contact details and your National Insurance number, so please ensure you have this information available before using the form.

The link will take you to an external website, however once you have completed the form, the details will be submitted to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. Once we have received the form, it can take up to 8 weeks for your details to be added to the Electoral Register. You will receive a letter to confirm that your details have been added, so there's no need for you to contact us again!

Why do I need to register to vote?

Not being registered can affect your chances of getting a mortgage, loan or any sort of credit. Many organisations use the electoral register to confirm that you live at the address you give on an application form, so if you are not included you could miss out on many things - including your right to vote.
