Ewood roadworks 1st November - 17 November 2017

Over the last few months BwD Highways team have been monitoring a stretch of road outside Ewood Working Mens’ Club where a dip has been found to be developing in the road.

During the most recent inspection, it became clear that we need to investigate the cause of the dip further and as a matter of priority.  The level of works required to stabilise and repair the issue are not known at this point. Our only option is to dig down into the sub surface to see what is causing the dip and undertake works to stabilise the area to avoid any potential further deterioration.

The works are  planned to start on Wednesday 1st November. This is during the school holiday period when traffic levels will be reduced. Given no major issues are identified following investigation we anticipate the works to be completed by 10th November.

There will inevitably be disruption and delays to motorists during these works. Businesses may be affected but we will do all we can to maintain access. A lane closure will be necessary under two way traffic light control.  Manually controlled traffic lights will be operational during peak times to manage the flow of traffic and reduce congestion.

Further updates will be posted on the BwD Roads Facebook page as investigations progress.  Please follow our page to receive the updates directly via Facebook.

All works on the highway now require a permit as part of the Streetworks Permit Scheme introduced across Blackburn with Darwen in January 2017.  A permit application is in the process of being granted for these works and the information will be automatically loaded to https://blackburn.roadworks.org where you can also register your details to receive regular updates of planned works on the highway via email.

In order to minimise disruption and congestion it will be necessary to switch off the traffic signals at Bolton Road, near Kidder Street, for the period of works.  This is due to the proximity of the required temporary two way traffic signals outside of Ewood Working Mens’ Club.  The approach has been taken in order to help maximise traffic flows.

As a result of the switch off it will be necessary to divert vehicles exiting Nuttall Street, Calico Street, Tapestry Street and Kidder Street onto Bolton Road by way of the bus gate near Aqueduct Road/Empire Theatre.  Access into these streets by the usual routes will not be affected.  Please see traffic management plan below for details.

Exit from the above streets will require vehicles to take a right turn rather than the usual left turn and follow the road to its junction with Alan Shearer Way and Aqueduct Road, opposite the theatre.  Travellers to Blackburn will take a right turn whilst travellers to Darwen will take a left turn and follow the A666 signs through Alan Shearer Way roundabout onto Bolton Road.  The bus lane will be suspended and bus stops relocated during the period of works.

We apologise in advance for any disruption or delays caused as a result of these essential works and thank you for your patience and understanding.
