Invite the Mayor to your event

If you would like the Mayor and Mayoress to attend your event then contact the Mayor's Office by phone, letter or by e-mail.

The Mayor's office need the following details:

    1. Nature of the event;
    2. Date and time;
    3. Venue.

      On receipt of this information the Mayor's office will confirm with you of the Mayor's availability by letter and also enclose an attendance form for completion with further details required by the Mayor and Mayor's officer with regard to the role of the Mayor at the event (if a speech is required, if food provided, car parking), a copy of the Mayor's biography will also be sent.

      The following information explains the correct procedure when the Mayor attends a public engagement.  The Mayor is the First Citizen of the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen, and as such takes precedence over all other citizens, and should be regarded as your principal guest.

      It is not customary to ask the Mayor to perform a secondary role within his own Borough, apart from two exceptions:

      • When Royalty are present;
      • When Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant is present.

        The Mayor takes precedence over Government Ministers, Members of Parliament and visiting personalities.

        If the Mayor is not hosting the engagement he/she should be seated on the immediate right of the host.  It is customary for the Mayor to be the first speaker; however, an introduction by the host is acceptable.
