Service information

There are various locations across Blackburn with Darwen where you can take your household refuse and recyclables.

There are recycling centres (tips) in both Blackburn and Darwen.

Spring Vale Road Darwen


Please separate out your rubbish for recycling before you visit the site - this saves money on burying recyclable items and helps protect our environment.

With your help we are recycling about 70% of all refuse taken to these sites.

Tip opening times

The sites are open everyday (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day)

8am - 5pm 1 October - 31 March

8am - 7pm 1 April - 30 September

Van or trailer permits

If you use a van to move rubbish, you will need a permit to enter the HWRC.

The Council also manages a number of recycling sites on car parks across Blackburn with Darwen. Below you will find a list of these sites and what you can recycle at each site.

Battery recycling

Some high street stores will now take back used batteries to recycle. Please ask store staff if you cannot see a collection container in the store.
